Silica was founded in 2025, based off a previously successful volunteering opportunity with Scouting America Troop 170. Scouts delivered leftover food at the end of the day from chain stores to local food banks, providing those in need with a valuable source of consumables. The process was efficient, straightforward, and highly popular. Alex and Andy, the previous managers of this opportunity, wants to expand it to beyond the troop. And so came Silica, the revised, rebranded, and resolute platform for the fight against food waste.
